Alarmism on course

The Science of Denial - The Bush administration has worked overtime to manipulate or conceal scientific evidence — and muzzled at least one prominent scientist — to justify its failure to address climate change.

Its motives were transparent: the less people understood about the causes and consequences of global warming, the less they were likely to demand action from their leaders. And its strategy has been far too successful. Seven years later, Congress is only beginning to confront the challenge of global warming. (New York Times)

This is truly amazing. We're supposed to believe that climate alarmism has somehow been suppressed because some officials at NASA edited some press releases. Name me an agency, company, organization which doesn't edit press releases fromm individuals within the organization.

And to say that the public somehow hasn't gotten the message. Are the fucking nuts?? All we hear is Global Warming this, Global Warming that, Climate Crisis, children in danger, thousands of species going extinct (without naming a single one), etc, ad nauseum, ad infinitum.

Statement by motorcycle racer after accident:

Quote:
"I know that god was watching out for me that night."

Well, considering you're the only one who crashed and got injured, I'd say the exact opposite.

Can someone please explain to me what level of stupidity is required to believe there is some invisible sky daddy watching over you after you've suffered some horrible accident?

You see/hear it constantly in the news, hurricane victims, earthquake victims, tornado victims. All killed/injured/made destitute by supposed "acts of god", yet you'll never fail to hear one of them say "God was protecting us, since we're not dead". No, you're not dead, but you've lost what little you had in life, and your friends and relatives might be dead or seriously injured. And me, the atheist, was untouched.

You also hear stories about everything being destroyed but a church. But then you don't hear the ones where very little was destroyed EXCEPT the church. Or churches collapsing and killing the inhabitants. Does god just throw dice to see who gets his protection? Oh, right, he works in mysterious ways. Cop out.

It really is a wonder we ever made it out of the stone age.

Update: Minutes after writing this another example came up on one of those "Amazing Videos" shows. A couple involved in a breakdown on the highway suddenly started getting hit by passing cars. Well, their car got hit, but they were able to walk away from it. And of course there ws the obligatory "There must have been an angel watching over us" statement.

I'm still trying to understand something.

An episode of the Penn and Teller show Bullshit! caught Greenpeace activists demonstrating outside of a grocery store, protesting about genetically modified (GM) foods. These protesters would tell people, literally, that GM foods undergo no testing, could cause you to grow extra limbs, a third eye, or other horrific and equally ridiculous stories.

What I can't understand is this. Do you take on the characteristics of a carrot by eating one? Or of a cow by eating beef? Or of a coffee bean by drinking coffee? No, of course not, because nothing you eat alters your DNA. So why would these idiots think eating a slightly different carrot or beef or corn or coffee cause such drastic deformities?

Apparently they're ignorant of many things, such as the fact that virtually everything they eat has been genetically modified over thousands of years by humans. I'm talking about hybridization and grafting. Take apples, for instance. Modern apples bear virtually no resemblance to apples before humans started breeding for size and taste, which was hundreds if not thousands of years ago. I think it's safe to say that NO crop that humans grow hasn't gone through a similar process over the centuries. Farmers have always sought ways to increase their crop size and quality. So why do the greenies trust this type of genetic modification over the more controlled type in a lab?

Hilary Benn or Benny Hill?

With the will, we can save the Earth - The world now understands that climate change is not just an environmental problem. It's also a security, economic, political and migration problem. What are we going to do when people begin fighting not about politics, but about water? What will we do when people start arriving on our shores fleeing not political persecution, but environmental catastrophe? And what will we do when the countries to which we sell goods can't buy them any more because they are having to deal with rising sea levels or crop failure? (Hilary Benn, The Observer)

Again more hand-wringing, yet no action on the part of the individuals involved.

The comments are more disconcerting than the actual article. People advocating meatless diets, the destruction of capitalism, UN world rule... Yet none of them are giving up their computers, cars, etc, things which require a huge carbon infrastructure to create. In their minds, as long as they say the right things they don't have to do anything.

Put your money where your mouth is, idiots. I challenge you to do the "right" thing. the only way to get rid of the so-called adverse human influence is to get rid of humans. So take that first step, off a tall cliff. Then we'll take you seriously, though you'll still be known as a crackpot.
